INNOCENCE LOST: THE DESCEND

The mind of a victim.“I woke up to a sound. I thought nothing of it, but then I heard another noise. I reluctantly crawled out of bed. As I walked down the hall I heard footsteps. When I proceeded toward the scrupulous steps, I saw the intruder. I did not know why he was here, but I know it was not for milk and cookies at three in the morning. As I stood there aghast I saw him begin to glide toward me. Before I could register it I began to run. He jolted for my arm. As I fell, all I could feel was the paralyzing feeling of fear. As I landed on the floor, I heard the crack of my wrist. When I opened my eyes, I saw them. Those empty, soulless and saddened eyes. Who would have thought that those blue eyes would be the last thing I ever see before my death.”
Thoughts from suffering families. Why were the victims chosen? What could make someone do such a thing? Why was I not there to help? These are the question s that race through the families’ mind when the person they love is taken from them. Not from an accident nor a disease or murder. One of the hapless victims on a blood thirsty killer’s list. Why were they chosen to be on that boat to death and nothingness? To go deeper into the psychological reasoning of serial killers many believe they kill because of brain disorders, created through sexual release and suppressed rage. I and other believe childhood traumas cause most to continue to kill.
From the study s of Radford University “for serial killers, the prevalence of physical abuse was 36%, sexual abuse was 20% and psychological abuse was 50%. Neglect was equally prevalent in the serial killer and societal room populations.” This study was conducted back in 2001. A serial killer has a cycle they go through kill after kill. They have strong need to kill at the peak of the cycle. When they do kill it is a release of these feelings. Once that kill is over the killer takes a break, may it be a few years, a few days, or even a couple of hours, but they will always kill again. They cannot help themselves. Serial killers after a long childhood of abuse take their emotions or anger out on animals in their teenage years. This is often the first sign of a killer. When they take pleasure in torturing animals and began to do it for numerous years. They grow tired of small animals such as: rabbits, cats, and other smaller creatures. They then began to want a bigger challenge. They start to hunt deer and bears for a bigger rush or release. Soon after that isn’t even enough that want to hunt the ultimate predator: humans? This helps them release more of their feelings, but the “high” of killing someone doesn’t last as long as they hoped. This is how they began the downward spiral to becoming a serial killer.
When someone who had been sexually abused they cause pain to others by rape, torture, sometimes both for sexual release. The Boston Strangler had to “get off” at least four times a day to be a slight but satisfied. When they torture others and see the pain in their eyes and face it makes the killer feel superior in their life. Either the killer was not very important in his day to day life or he didn’t feel appreciated so they received that feeling of accomplishment when they commit these scandalous acts against humanity. Many of these killers do not have successful relationships with women or men. So when they see someone who would never consider them as an option they become angry and what that random person to feel how they feel every day.  This causes a domino effect of torture, rape, and murder.
Delusional serial killers on the other hand believe they have or have had and intimate relationship with this said person even if they have only seen them once. When their delusion is shattered they take abrasive actions to make it as though nothing had happen or that person had never existed. These killers began their M.O. by stalking their “prey” and getting to know their routine. What that person loves and adapted to that persona. These killers are very controlling when it comes to their target. If that person does anything out of line, in the killers mind, it will enrage the killer and cause them to make drastic decisions. You never want that to happen.
There are all kinds of serial killers sexual one, enraged one, and full out psychotics. When researching my topic most of them all have the same cause of their distress, environmental influences. Abuse, neglect, abandonment, the worse is a case of all three. My research shows nothing in their brain causes them to kill. The only one that would be is schizophrenics, when off their medication. The additional serial killers brains may show low activity, but also do drug addicts after drugs and alcoholics after drinks. Anything environmental could have caused their brains to do it and it’s not all serial killer’s brain that reacts that way. Environment is the major contribution to why certain killers are the way they are.
